As it approaches, it becomes the brightest "star" in the sky. As it passes between Earth and the Sun, it appears, through a telescope, as a bright crescent. The animation represents the path Venus would take through the sky, if you were to plot its position at the same time every evening just after sunset. The animation is highly speeded up. It actually takes Venus over six months to trace out this path. The Sun's position in the sky, just below the horizon, is shown. |
