Locating Proxima Centauri

The width of the field is approximately 4°. The bright star at the upper left is Alpha Centauri. Beta Centauri is towards the upper right. Proxima Centauri, amongst the dimmest of the stars shown on this chart, is at the bottom lower left. Note: the chart is based on the Hubble Guide Star Catalog, a database of 19 million stars. Most of the stars visible in the DSS image on page 4 are absent from the chart. The chart shows a similar level of detail to that seen Akira Fujii's Southern Milky Way poster image, used on page 3.
