Locating Proxima Centauri

Although it is the closest star, it is still very dim (visual magnitude 10.9). It is a red dwarf, a star that is just massive enough to be a star and is therefore, one of the dimmest possible stars.

The approximate field of view is 2°.

Proxima Centauri is apparent as a dim red star. Move the mouse over the image to display a 1° x 1° field that contains it. The circle marks its position.
