Hubble Space Telescope's Deepest Photo Yet

Andromeda is the nearest spiral galaxy to the Milky Way. Light from its stars takes 2 million years to reach us. The HST's most recent deep field peers through the stars in the outer edge of Andromeda to distant galaxies far beyond. The area of sky covered by the image is marked on the image below. It is a tiny portion of sky - an area equivalent to a grain of sand balanced on the tip of one's thumb, held at arm's length.
