Line of Sight - Andromeda - 84 hour ACS Exposure - Detail - c - d - e - f - g - h - Press Release

Hubble Space Telescope's Deepest Photo Yet
7th May 2003

The Hubble Space Telescope's recently installed ACS camera has been used to take an 84 hour exposure of a field adjacent to the Andromeda Galaxy. Three populations of objects appear in the image. 1. Stars in the Milky Way. 2. Stars in the outer halo of Andromeda. 3. Distant Galaxies. The image peers further into the depths of time and distance than any other image taken so far.
