Image Aquisition
The Chandra Space Telescope images the sky at X-ray wavelengths. This video pinpoints seven supermassive black hole X-Ray sources the Chandra X-ray Observatory has discovered in the Southern GOODS field. These objects cannot be seen in the Hubble image. Astronomers are so far undecided whether these black holes are the most distant ever detected, or just hidden in very dusty galaxies. The sequence begins with the full Chandra field. The locations of the black holes are indicated. The video then zooms into a close-up containing two black holes, which disappear when the Hubble image is overlayed.
