The Chandra X-ray data show regions of hot gas.

This is a high energy X-Ray image. It shows a thin shell of very hot gas located directly behind the shock front.

This gas radiates at multiple wavelengths. It presence is also seen in the Hubble visible light image and the Spitzer infrared image.
