The Orion Nebula M42
The Orion NebulaIn this higher resolution view cropped from the HST's 1995 Orion Nebula mosaic, young sun-sized stars, surrounded by knots of gas can be seen. Some have comet like tails that stretch away from the trapezium stars. The fierce radiation from these four massive young stars is blasting dust and gas from the area. Gas in the shadow of the newly formed sun-sized stars is sheltered from the blast and forms the comet like tails. |
