The Orion Nebula M42

Proplyds

Examination of the 1995 HST image of the Orion nebula at full resolution reveals various dusty disks of gas, about the size of the solar system. At the centre of the disks, dull red, newly formed stars can often be seen.

The disks are called proplyds, proto planetary disks. They are new stars and planetary systems being formed by gravitational condensation of gas from the clouds of the Orion Nebula.
