Saturn's rotation axis is tilted from vertical. As a result, the amount of sunlight reaching Saturn's northern and southern hemispheres changes as it orbits the Sun. Like Earth, Saturn has seasons. Details.

The images show Saturn moving from the end of southern autumn through to the middle of spring. Saturn's year is much longer than Earth's - it takes 29.5 earth years to orbit the Sun. Each of Saturn's seasons lasts over seven earth years.

This sequence of images was taken from Earth orbit by the Hubble Space Telescope.
