Titan[<] - [1] - [2] - [3] - [4] - [5] - [6] - [7] - [>]A Closer Look at the AtmosphereVoyager and Cassini have obtained close looks at Titan's thick atmosphere. It consists mostly of nitrogen, as does Earth's, but It also contains a substantial percentage of "smog-like" chemicals such as methane and ethane. Earth's primordial atmosphere was made up of similar compounds. The surface temperature on Titan is around -180° C. Liquid hydrocarbons could exist there. Liquid methane could rain onto and flow across the surface. April 2005 |
