IntroductionThe Milky Way's largest globular cluster, Omega Centauri |
A globular cluster is a compact, gravitationally bound group of hundreds of thousands to several million stars. Globular clusters are themselves gravitationally bound to galaxies. They have comparable ages to their associated galaxies. Their star populations are uniformly old. Globular clusters are devoid of gas - no new stars form in them. The stars at the centre of a globular cluster are much more densely packed than the stars in other parts of the galaxy. Source: Globular Cluster - Wikipedia |
