The Most Distant Stellar Nursery yet Detected
The Spitzer Space Telescope recently detected a new star formation region in constellation
Centaurus. 300 newborn stars have been identified.
The image shows the dusty stellar nursery called RCW 49.
It is approximately 13,700 light-years from Earth. It is the most distant stellar nursery
yet detected.
Only two of the new stars have been examined in detail. They both have planet-forming discs
