Two parallel wheel tracks extend straight up the middle of this image from bottom to top, shrinking in size until they disappear over a flat horizon in the distance. Short, horizontal indentations in the tracks show the tread of the rover's wheels. From left to right, smashed by the tracks, are parallel ripples crossing a sandy, slightly undulating surface. Along the bottom edge are two rows of solar cells on the rover's front solar panel.

Fading into the Past
Receding rover tracks might not be too out of context for old-time spice traders voyaging across the Sahara. While the machine may be modern, the journey across distant horizons is the stuff of all ages, all worlds.
