The scale diagram above illustrates the problem of detecting the parallax of nearby stars. If the diameter of Earth's orbit is enclosed by a single screen pixel on a standard computer monitor, the nearest star would have to be placed about 40 metres away. The diameter of Earth's orbit is minuscule, compared to the distance of the nearest stars. Their parallaxes are almost undetectable.
