Spitzer Discovers Atmospheric and Surface Details of Exoplanets

  • Astronomers have found over 50 Hot Jupiters orbiting very close to their stars
  • They have detected them by the way they vary the light of their stars
  • Apart from their masses and orbits, we have learned little else about them

  • The Spitzer Infrared Space Telescope has been examining some transiting Hot Jupiters
  • The SST has directly detected radiation emitted by the exoplanets
  • Now we can study of the surface and atmospheres of explanets
